Review: Joel (Jim Carrey) is a rather milquetoast free spirit who meets Clementine (Kate Winslet), and they become romantically involved. However, they suffer messy breakup and Clementine is a company called Lacuna, Inc., where he erased her memories of Joel. Not wanting to eliminate, Joel is also clear in its memory. However, soon after it starts, Joel realized that he wants to keep the memory of Clementine so he trying to reverse the process.Well if you're familiar with the work Kaufman, and then you know what you're getting yourself. It was as strange as no stranger than his previous work, being John Malkovich. I knew what I was in for me, but 90% of the movie I said to myself, What's going on?, But in a good way. It opens with Joel in sick to work and go to another train, on the way to Montauk. He meets Clementine, and they hit it off. Now this is the movie for about 15 minutes, and then the opening credit sequence from nowhere. I must admit, I thought it would be different, but I am glad it is as it is, the film is 80% of the time you think you know Joel head.If Carrey, think again. This film was his best performance, better than Majestic, The Truman Show and all of his comic roles (that's what I like him for that). Just look at his face from the second we see him, we feel his pain, then we feel her joy, shame and anger. Just great acting on his part, and Winslet are excellent as the free spirit who never seems satisfied. The supporting cast all work well in their small, but important role. Oscar nominations for Winslet and (crosses fingers) Carrey.But if I bet any money on any Oscar nominations are obviously writing, the mess, but not beautiful landscaped. You think to yourself, that scene really necessary? After ten minutes later you think to yourself how brilliant it is, that's pretty crazy, give me what he's smoking that kind of writing. Charlie Kaufman is writing intelligent always, but this time he was one-upped themselves at once strange and emotional attraction by doing something. It looked like his earlier films are thin overreach, but Eternal Sunshine manages to amaze you with its originality and its emotions. The fact that this film could get such a profound loss, emotional sensitivity, and hope in such self-consciously stylish package wrapper describes the incredible talent of the people behind it.Michel Gondrys use bright colors and rapid movement of the camera display is a film with very first hand feel. The continuous use of the handy cam is really all you do for the viewer, and I suppose this is exactly what is needed in such a personal film. His work in the dream sequences are fantastic too. He decided to use than what we see today in the computer. More practical implications Eternal Sunshine is a tragic but beautiful film that sits at the top of my list of the best of 2004.
